Healthy Summer Travel

Summer is here and that means time to beat the heat and travel! Traveling can sometimes make it difficult to stay on track with your diet and exercise goals. Then, when you get back, it can be weeks until you are back on track. The best thing to do is to TRY and stick to your diet and exercise routine the best you cane while traveling, without being too stressed about it (I always think you should have a little more fun on vacation!) Here are some healthy tips to stay on track while traveling.

Pack healthy snacks!

Trail mix: This is an easy and healthy go-to with a variety of flavors. Use any type of nuts, seeds and dried fruit.

Meat sticks or Beef Jerky: There are some healthy meat snacks out there that are an easy protein on the go: Epic bars and strips, Chomps, Paleo Valley and the New Primal are ones that are no or low in sugar.

Raw veggies and hummus: cut up some carrots, cucumbers, celery and pack in a container. There are several brands of hummus that now package in single serve containers

Apple and almond butter: Justin’s, Barney’s Butter, and Artisana all make single serve packets. Be sure to read the labels, some of the varieties have sugar added

Fruit: As easy as it sounds

Protein/snack Bars: Rx bars, Paleo bars, Larabar, Pure Organics, Orgain all make pretty tasty bars. Again be sure to read labels if you are avoiding sugar, some of the flavors do have sugar.

Pack individual packets of protein powder or collagen.

Put some Vital Protein Collagen powder in your coffee or bring your favorite protein powder with you in case your are in need of some quick protein. I like Ancient Nutrition Bone broth protein . However, beware carrying unmarked bags may cause a luggage search if you are flying!

Pack Digestive Enzymes.

If you do veer away from your diet and want to try out a new restaurant, it may be worth your while to bring some digestive enzyme to take before eating to help reduce bloating and other not so pleasant symptoms afterwards.

Find a health food store or well stock grocery store nearby.

You can research where you are going to stay and look for any health food stores that are close to you to stock up once you get there.

Happy and healthy travels!!!
